Anushka Sharma, the actress, has invested an undisclosed sum in millet-based startup Wholesome Foods, making her the company’s investor and brand ambassador. Sharma will also advocate for Wholesome Foods’ flagship brand, Slurrp Farm, as well as all future brands that the company plans to launch as it strives to become a brand house.

Anushka Sharma is an actress, businesswoman, and mother in addition to her film roles. She is now adding a new one: strategic partner at Wholesome Foods.

Anushka Sharma joins Wholesome Foods as an investor, brand ambassador, and advocate for flagship brand Slurrp Farm, as well as all future brands Wholesome Foods will launch as it expands to become a house of brands as part of this strategic partnership.

Anushka Sharma has spent her entire life advocating for healthy, conscious choices. As a new mom, her values strongly align with Wholesome Foods’ core purpose: to create millet-based products with zero junk ingredients that are better for us and our planet. The investment comes at a time when people all over the world are rediscovering the benefits of ancient Indian millets like ragi, jowar, and bajra.

Slurp Farm, a brand that uses the power of millets to provide healthy, tasty, and natural snack and mealtime options for young children and their parents, was launched in 2016 by Wholesome Foods. When co-founders Meghana Narayan and Shauravi Malik became mothers, they realized there was a lack of high-quality and nutritious food options for young children.

Anushka Sharma said of the collaboration, “I’ve always believed you are what you eat – real, wholesome, sustainable food choices go a long way in setting the tone for a healthy and happy life.” It’s a realization that hit home even more after I became a mother: I want my daughter to develop a healthy relationship with food, and I need to start her on that path as soon as possible.

Wholesome Foods was founded by two mothers, so their mission to de-junk the plates of children and families around the world resonates strongly with me. Millets, an ancient hardy grain packed with nutrients that are both good for us and good for the planet, are at the heart of this mission. I hope that this collaboration will help to preserve India’s rich millet heritage and enable today’s generation to leave a healthier lifestyle and planet for future generations.”

“Ahead of the International Year of Millets in 2023, we couldn’t have asked for anyone better than Anushka Sharma on board with us as we take millets to the world,” said Meghana Narayan and Shauravi Malik, co-founders and co-CEOs of Wholesome Foods Pvt Ltd. The collaboration is a significant step forward as we build Wholesome Foods into a brand house that makes food better for us and the planet.

Wholesome Foods currently has a revenue run rate of INR 55 crore and aspires to have a revenue run rate of INR 150 crore by March 2023. Anushka Sharma’s investment follows a $7 million funding round led by the Investment Corporation of Dubai, the government of Dubai’s sovereign wealth fund, and Indian multi-stage venture fund Fireside Ventures.

Slurp Farm, Wholesome Foods’ flagship brand, is currently available in India through as well as leading e-commerce and quick commerce platforms such as Amazon, Big Basket, FirstCry, and Swiggy Instamart, among others. Products are also available in leading modern trade stores in India and the UAE, as well as online in the United States and the United Kingdom.
