Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are letting their job do the talking. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were recognized with the coveted President’s Award at the 2022 NAACP Image Awards on Saturday, February 26, in appreciation of their social justice activities and global battle for fairness.

Honorable mention. On Saturday, February 26, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle received the President’s Award at the 53rd NAACP Image Awards.

“It’s inspirational to think of the heritage of the Image Awards, which began just after the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965 were enacted into law,” the Bench author, 40, said as she and her husband, 37, began their joint remarks. “Today, we can carry on that tradition by restoring federal voting rights in our country and carrying on the work of civil rights giants like the late John Lewis.” We are incredibly honored to be here with so many great honorees.”

The England native, for his part, was humbled to receive the prestigious prize.

“I also echo the enormous thanks for today, both for this award and for this community’s warm welcome,” the Duke of Sussex said on Saturday. “I believe it’s safe to say that I come from a totally different background than my amazing wife, but our lives were placed together for a reason.”

We share a dedication to a life of service, a responsibility to fight injustice, and a sense that those who are frequently forgotten are the most vital to listen to.” The twosome donned clothes designed by Black designers in commemoration of the NAACP Image Awards. Meghan wore a blue one-shoulder gown by Christopher John Rogers, while Harry wore

Rihanna, Jay-Z, Muhammad Ali, Lauryn Hill, and LeBron James have all received the award in the past. The Sussexes earned the honor because they “heeded the call to social justice and have joined the battle for fairness both in the United States and throughout the world,” according to Derrick Johnson, president, and CEO of the NAACP.

“It’s amazing to think of the Image Awards’ heritage, which began shortly after the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965 were enacted into law,” Meghan remarked as the pair stepped on stage together. “Today, we can carry on that legacy by restoring federal voting safeguards in our country and carrying on the work of civil rights heroes like the late John Lewis.”

“We are very sincerely honored to be here in the presence of so many distinguished winners,” she continued.

“Before I begin, we would like to recognize the people of Ukraine, who urgently require our continuing assistance as a global society,” Harry remarked. I also want to express my heartfelt thanks for today, both for this honor and for this community’s kind welcome.

I believe it is safe to say that my amazing wife and I come from quite different backgrounds, yet our lives were thrown together for a reason. We share a dedication to a life of service, a responsibility to fight injustice, and a sense that those who are frequently forgotten are the most vital to listen to.”

“And I couldn’t be more proud that we’re doing this job together,” Meghan continued. We relocated to California, my home state, just before George Floyd’s murder. Those nine minutes and 29 seconds transcended time for Black America, evoking centuries of unhealed traumas.

As my husband and I engaged with the civil rights community in the months that followed, we committed ourselves and our organization, Archewell, to spotlighting those who are furthering racial fairness and development.”

Meghan and Harry, who have two children, Archie, two, and Lili, eight months, have made a few public appearances since coming to California, where Meghan was born and raised. They discreetly volunteered across the Los Angeles region during the onset of the epidemic, bringing meals to individuals in need and assisting with a back-to-school drive.

Earlier this month, Harry made an unexpected appearance at the Super Bowl with his cousin, Princess Eugenie, who was visiting the pair with her husband, Jack Brooksbank, and their one-year-old son August.
