India Reports a 90% Jump in Covid Cases in a Day


On Monday, India reported a single-day increase of 2,183 new Covid-19 infections, bringing the total number of cases in the country to 4.30 crore. According to the ministry, the daily positivity rate was 0.83 percent, and the weekly positivity rate was 0.32 percent.

The country also reported 214 fatalities in the last 24 hours, bringing the total death toll to 5,21,965, including 213 from Kerala, according to data updated at 8 a.m. The number of people who have recovered from the disease has risen to 4,25,10,773, with a case fatality rate of 1.21 percent. 

The number of active cases has dropped to 11,542, according to the health ministry. According to the ministry, active cases account for 0.03 percent of total infections, while the national Covid-19 recovery rate remains at 98.76 percent. In the last 24 hours, the active Covid-19 caseload has decreased by 16 cases. 

While going back to the extensive pandemic time, the situation was even worse. India’s Covid-19 count had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7, 2020, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5, and 50 lakh on September 16. 

It went past 60 lakh on September 28, 70 lakh on October 11, crossed 80 lakh on October 29, 90 lakh on November 20, and outflanked the one-crore mark on December 19. COVID Cases in India Increased

Last year, the country passed the two-crore mark on May 4 and the three-crore mark on June 23. Aside from the 213 deaths in Kerala, one new death has been reported in Uttar Pradesh.

So far, the country has reported 5,21,965 deaths, including 1,47,827 in Maharashtra, 68,615 in Kerala, 40,057 in Karnataka, 38,025 in Tamil Nadu, 26,158 in Delhi, 23,500 in Uttar Pradesh, and 21,200 in West Bengal. 

The service underscored that comorbidities were answerable for over 70% of the passings. “Our figures are being reconciled with the Indian Council of Medical Research,” the ministry was found to mention on its website, along with adding that the state-by-state distribution of figures is still subject to verification as well as reconciliation.

A concerning increase has been observed in Delhi in the days following the repeal of the mask mandate and the full resumption of in-person classes in the city’s schools after a nearly two-year hiatus. In the most recent spike, the national capital reported 517 cases. The city had received 461 new patients the day before.
